Maybe One Day I'll Learn...

About a year and a half ago, I posted a picture on Instagram of a book that I had been reading at  work. The caption accompanying the picture was a quick story about how I had been so sucked into the story that when an 80-year-old man walked up from behind me to ask a question, it scared me and I almost jumped out of my chair.I ended up deciding that it would maybe be best if I stopped reading the book (and any other book by Lynette Eason) while I'm working. They are so intense and emotional that I get completely engrossed. This is not a bad thing. This is a very good thing. It indicates great writing. However, when I end up crying at my desk or jumping out of my chair every time the phone rings, that's a little less than great. Maybe one day I'll learn not to read such intense books at work, but today is not that day. Because I've been reading the Blue Justice series by Lynette Eason this week at work.Guys. These books are so good.Isabelle, Chloe, and Brady St. John are three of the six kids that make up the St. John family. With a mother who's the Chief of Police and a father who's a lawyer, it's not surprising that almost all the St. John kids ended up working in law enforcement. These three siblings work hard to honor the badge, protect those who can't protect themselves, and make their community safer. If they happen to fall in love in the process, that's okay too.Their family dynamic is fun and entertaining and makes you want to be member of the St. John family. The law enforcement family vibe is reminiscent of the Reagans from Blue Bloods, who I love, so that was one aspect I truly enjoyed. Also, a lot of fiction, especially romance, tends to shy away from giving protagonists a large family--or any family--so any books that show a large, caring family is something I can definitely get behind. These books also have complex cases that aren't easy to figure out, which is as good as it gets in my opinion. I love trying to figure out who the bad guy is, and with these books it was definitely challenging. Even if I had an inkling, the details were complicated enough that I couldn't quite figure out everything. It's easy to tell that Eason has some law enforcement friends helping her get the details right. I'm no expert (unless you count being an avid Live PD fan...), but her writing has a level of authenticity to it that is rare in Christian Suspense, in my opinion. The ONLY aspect of these books that I struggled with is that the hits just. keep. coming. The intensity of Eason's books is part of what make them so engaging, but sometimes it gets a little overwhelming. When that happens, I take a little break and give my brain a chance to relax. So, really, my compliant is that they're too engaging, and I don't really think that's a legitimate complaint.Overall, these books are so good! I found myself tearing up at certain parts and barely breathing at other parts. I'm definitely looking forward to the fourth and final book in the Blue Justice Series coming out this fall!I would absolutely recommend the Blue Justice series if you're looking for a fast-paced, suspense-filled read. I've also read Eason's Elite Guardians Series, Women of Justice Series, and Deadly Reunions Series. I would highly recommend ALL of them. Just...maybe don't read them at work. :)
