Worst Detective Ever
Years ago, in the early days of my blog, I wrote a weekly series called Fiction Friday. Not surprisingly, I posted them on Fridays and wrote about the books I had been reading. At some point along the line, I stopped writing them. However, I really loved getting to tell all of you about the books I'm reading, so I recently decided I was going to reinstate my Fiction Friday posts.I've spent the last few weeks reading books about the worst detective ever. No, seriously, that's what the series is called: the Worst Detective Ever Mystery Series. Probably because the main character isn't actually a detective. She just played one on TV.With a brilliant setup like that, I couldn't wait to dive into these books, and they did not disappoint. I mean, the titles alone are attention-grabbing and funny. I really love a good pun, and the book titles are about as good as it gets. The books follow Joey Darling an actress who had a hit TV show about a Private Detective but has since left Hollywood behind for the island town of Outer Banks, NC. As she tries to settle into her new life, she keeps getting pulled into various criminal investigations because people (fans) want her to be as good of a detective as her character, Raven Remington.Joey is joined on her investigations by her fun-loving, surfer-boy neighbor, who is always happy to help her on a case. Then there's the straight-laced detective who really wishes she would leave his crime scenes alone. Throw in a crazy-stalker, a missing father, some dogged paparazzi, and an eccentric aunt and it's easy to see that Joey's life is a bit nuts. These unconventional mystery books are incredibly fun. Joey's quirks make the books more interesting and the character more relatable. Also, the mysteries aren't necessarily easy to figure out. I was surprised by more than one ending, which doesn't happen very often when I'm reading mysteries. All in all, I really loved reading them and I'm definitely hoping the author has more books planned for the Worst Detective Ever Mystery Series!!! (If she doesn't, at least she has a number of other book series I can enjoy!)
