Fiction Friday #5 - Mix It Up
Last week I was wandering through a Goodwill with Kelley when I noticed a book called Darcy's Story it's Pride and Prejudice told from a whole new perspective. Naturally, this caught my attention, so I spent a whole dollar on it so I could check it out. The author of Darcy's Story is Janet Aylmer (pen name) is an English woman who also happens to be a Jane Austen enthusiast. She basically read through Pride and Prejudice and wondered what the story would be like from Mr. Darcy's perspective. She then took it upon herself to write a book that answers some of her questions on the subject. One of her main goals was to not change the actual story at all but keep all the factual elements the same and explore Darcy's thoughts and emotions. I wasn't sure I was going to like this book when I bought it, but I thought she did a wonderful job of maintaining the integrity of the original story while adding depth to a seriously mysterious character. If it's at all possible, this book makes Mr. Darcy even more lovable. One of my other favorite aspects of this book was that it you get to spend more time getting to know characters like Georgiana, Colonel Fitzwilliam, and Mr. Bingley and his sisters. Although the story is pretty consistent with Pride and Prejudice, this book definitely adds a new spin to the story that I found quite enjoyable!
Of course, now I want to watch 'Pride and Prejudice', so I'm going to have to convince Kelley to watch it with me sometime in the next couple days!!
